Complex Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) & Behaviour Support Planning (BSP) Workshop
Often people practitioners support have multiple, interacting factors influencing their behaviour and support needs. Mental health conditions, communication differences, environmental factors, histories of trauma and adversity, contact with the criminal justice system, and significant risk of harm can all shape how behaviour presents and what effective support looks like.
This 6-hour intensive workshop is designed for practitioners who want to strengthen their clinical reasoning and develop a more comprehensive, person-centred approach to functional behaviour assessment and behaviour support planning.
The workshop is highly practical, with real-world, de-identified case studies providing opportunities to apply the concepts, work through complex clinical scenarios, and develop your own assessment and planning skills.
What you’ll learn:
You will develop practical skills in:
- Conduct holistic functional behaviour assessments that go beyond immediate antecedents and consequences
- Identify dynamic and historical factors influencing behaviour and support needs
- Develop stronger functional hypotheses when behaviour has multiple or unclear maintaining variables
- Use assessment findings to inform individualised, evidence-informed behaviour support plans
- Consider risk, restrictive practices and quality of life within assessment and planning processes
- Translate assessment findings into clear, practical recommendations for support teams
- Apply learning through interactive case studies and complex clinical scenarios
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is designed primarily for behaviour support practitioners, and is also relevant to allied health professionals and behaviour analysts working with people with disability and complex support needs.
It is particularly suited to practitioners who already have a foundational understanding of positive behaviour support and functional behaviour assessment and want to build their confidence working with more complex presentations.

You’ll receive a practical toolkit of resources, tools and templates to support your work beyond the workshop. These resources are designed to be used in your day-to-day practice to help you gather and organise information, strengthen functional assessment, develop hypotheses and support behaviour support planning.
