This course supports behaviour support analysts, practitioners, and allied health professionals to better understand Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and its impact on behaviour. It explores why many standard behaviour approaches are ineffective for people with FASD and provides a practical, neurodevelopmentally informed framework for assessment, planning, and day-to-day responses that reduce risk and improve quality of life.

Suitable for:

  • Behaviour Support Practitioners
  • Board-Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBA), Certified Behaviour Analysts (CBA)
  • Developmental Educators
  • Allied health professionals
  • Disability support coordinators
  • Direct support persons
  • Out-of-home care and residential care practitioners
  • Education and youth justice professionals
  • Professionals working with children, young people, or adults with complex neurodevelopmental profiles

What you’ll learn:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain FASD as a neurodevelopmental condition and describe how prenatal alcohol exposure affects brain development, behaviour, and functional capacity
  • Critically reflect on the strengths and limitations of common behaviour frameworks and methods when working with FASD
  • Develop practical, capacity-matched strategies that prioritise regulation, safety, environmental adaptation, and long-term support rather than short-term behaviour change

What you'll gain:

  • Identify how FASD presents across the lifespan, including common behavioural patterns, co-occurring conditions, and risk factors
  • Apply an FASD-informed lens to behaviour assessment, expectation-setting, and support planning
  • The course aligns with current NDIS capability expectations, including neurodevelopmental understanding, trauma-informed practice, capacity-based support, risk reduction, and ethical behaviour support planning.
  • 2.5 CEU/CPD’s
